About CFB Kingston

The Canadian Forces Base Kingston (CFB Kingston) is located in Eastern Ontario and was established in 1966, formerly known as the Barriefield Military Camp in 1914. The base has since expanded as one of the largest training bases in Canada and is responsible for providing training facilities and support services to its respective units for Land Force Command, now known as the Canadian Army.

Canadian Forces Base Kingston has launched an Energy Awareness Campaign that is supporting Canada’s Greening Government Strategy. We are taking action against climate change by implementing an Energy Performance Contract (EPC) overseen by Defence Construction Canada (DCC) and the Department of National Defence (DND).

The CFB Kingston Eco-Team believes that every building occupant plays a role in achieving energy efficiency and reducing the environmental footprint of facilities. Here are just some of our few tips on how you can contribute to reducing energy consumption and GHG emissions at home and at work:

  • Replace your lightbulbs with LED technologies!
  • Remember to turn off the lights when you leave a room or area empty!
  • Set thermostat schedules and avoiding changing the temperature manually!
  • Turn off the tap when not using the water!
  • Install water-efficient faucets and showerheads!
  • Check if your windows are well sealed for the winter!
  • Turn off your computer when you don’t use it!
  • Buy Certified Energy Star® certified electronics and appliances!
  • Choose alternative transportation such as carpooling, cycling and walking whenever possible!
